The Decepticons

First Appearance: Only one? Yeah, right! Most made their debut during the limited series, and others busted onto the scene throughout the regular series and during Transformers: Generation 2.

Members: Too many to list 'em all, but here are a few: Megatron, Starscream, Scorponok, Mindwipe, Weirdwolf, Skullcruncher, Quake, Spinister, Needlenose, Ruckus, Ravage, Windsweeper, Menasor, Crankcase, Ratbat, Runabout, and Runamuck.

What's Their Problem? Hey, they're power-hungry war-mongers! Isn't that enough?

Abilities: Aside from turning into guns and tanks and jets and stuff? Most Decepticons usually have special abilities; for instance, the gestalt groups merging to form a giant robot, Soundwave's mind-reading, and Bombshell's cerebro-shells.

Weapons: ...are among the millions. There are lasers, concussion rifles, compressed air-guns, etc. Some have unique personal weapons; i.e., Megatron's fusion cannon, Jolt and Sizzle's laser-sabres, Frenzy's ultra-sonics.

Favorite Quote: Hard to decide, but here's one: "Aw, gee, boss... you sure know how to keep your troops smilin'." (Quake, after Bludgeon orders the 'Cons to destroy anything and everything they encounter.)

Heroes They Kept Running Into: The Autobots. (Like, who else?) Well, actually, their repeated targeting of "fleshlings" resulted in the creation of R.A.A.T., the Rapid Anti-robot Attack Team, which was led by the computer cyborg Circuit Breaker. 'course, R.A.A.T. went after Autobots and Decepticons alike -- editor Jeanne.

People Who Think They're Not So Bad: Um ... maybe their Master partners (don't ask) ... no one else .... really, no one at all...

Most Despicable Act: Taking their ship, the Warwold, and ravaging Earth, bringing it to the brink of doomsday. And they blew up San Francisco! The whole city! KA-BOOM!

So, Where Do These Guys Fit Into The Scheme Of Things? The debate over whether the Transformers series should be considered part of the Marvel Universe or just be kept in the Hasbro Merchandising Tie-In Universe is a long-standing one. Despite an appearance by Spider-Man during the Limited Series, the current thinking seems to be that the epic war between the Decepticons and the Transfomers occurred outside the current continuity. Me, I figure a Universe that can accept the Micronauts shouldn't have a problem with big ol' robots that like to pretend they're cars! -- editor Jeanne

Some Darn Deceptive Sounds!

From Beast Wars. All sounds in .wav format.

Megatron: "This is Megatron, leader of the Decepticons."

Megatron: "If you are hearing this, it means I've failed...this time!" (evil chuckle)

Ravage: "Decepticons forever!"
