Persuasion
by Kirk Furlotte
Real Name: Kara Killgrave
AKA: The Purple Girl (So this colour scheme fits her very well, don't you think?)
First Appearance: Alpha Flight 41
Favorite Quote: Undoubtedly, Kara's best line occured when she first appeared and put Northstar under her power. She asked him to take her to a tropical island where she decided that they should go swimming. She dived right in, but then thought of something: "C'mon! Let's swim! Wait a minute! -- Oh! Go ahead! It's okay! You're wearing briefs!"
Team Affiliation: Kara started out as the first member of a re-formed Beta Flight, Alpha Flight's training group. Although she was in Beta Flight, she was often along for the ride for many of Alpha's adventures. She was heartbroken when the team broke up and she went home to live with her mom, taking fellow Betans Laura Dean and Goblyn. Eventually, Alpha Flight came together due to a series of unusual circumstances and situations but Kara's stint with the team was much shorter this time. After she had been left behind while the rest of the team went on to battle the DreamQueen, she was so angry that she left, taking Laura and Goblyn with her again. She finally returned to Beta Flight once and for all when the threat of Llan, the Sorcerer arose and has served admirably since, occasionally taking a leadership role. She remains hopeful of graduating to become a full Alpha Flight member.
Powers: Kara inherited her power from her dad, the Purple Man. She has the ability to control the actions of other people through spreading pheromones. However, there is a neat side-effect, their skin turns purple! Also, she has displayed limited telepathic powers.
Favorite Storyline: Kara is one of the few female characters that I know who has almost consistently been written well. Possibly the best storyline for her would be issue 62, where she battles against her dead father. Also, Kara's premiere issue was quite good, with several funny moments dealing with her initial uses of her powers.
Least Favorite Storyline: The two big problems with Kara in the past have been the problem of her age (she started out as a thirteen-year-old but quickly began to look and act like an eighteen-year-old) and her fear of her power.
Editor's Note: Okay, for all of you who have been whining for nude images of the Women of Marvel Comics (and you know who you are, you perverted sleezes), Kara in the tub is the closest thing you're ever going to get. Enjoy! -- editor Jeanne
