Featuring the following heroine!

Ann Weying
by Keith R.A. DeCandido

Real name: Ann Weying.
AKA: Ann Brock. She-Venom.

First appearance: As Ann Weying, Amazing Spider-Man 375. As "She-Venom," Venom: Sinner Take All 2.

Favorite quote: "The New York Police Department and Spider-Man rescued me. As far as I'm concerned, my ex-husband had nothing to do with it." ("Spider-Man: Venom's Wrath" novel, where Ann basically gives Venom the middle finger, even though he did, strictly speaking, aid in her rescue from kidnappers.)

Team affiliation: None, unless you consider the people who've been bonded with a symbiote a "team," in which case she joins with Carnage and those five losers from Separation Anxiety.
Powers: As Ann, she has none. On the two occasions when she bonded with the Venom symbiote, and was referred to as "She-Venom" by the NYPD, she displayed the same powers as Venom.

Favorite storyline: Uncanny Origins 7, where she tells her obnoxious, overbearing ex-husband that she's staying divorced from him no matter how successful a Daily Globe reporter he is (and we all know how long that lasted, didn't we, boys and girls?).

Least favorite storyline: A tie between the two "She-Venom" stories, Venom: Sinner Take All and Venom: Along Came a Spider. She had very little personality to start out, and these two appearances did nothing to add to it, having her vacillate between not wanting to see her ex again and being nice to him. Aside from that, she has no discernible character whatsoever, which is in perfect keeping with the abysmal recent Venom miniseries, where violence has proven to be much more important than character development. Actually, I always thought she was pretty brave; she confronted her insanely powerful (and just plain crazy) ex despite lacking powers herself during her first appearance. But what do I know? -- editor wouldn't-catch-me-trying-to-talk-sense-into-Venom Jeanne

Future For the Character: With the mercy-killing of the Venom miniseries, the character's future is uncertain, though she will be showing up in the novel "Spider-Man: Venom's Wrath" (due in the fall of 1998).
