Iron Man V8 Issue 10 (#690) - We open with Happy Hogan, recently revealed to be alive, recalling how he met Tony Stark whom he saved his life trapped in a racecar that was on fire. He recalls Tony offering to pay him. Happy didn't want the money, but he could use a job. Tony hired him. Happy recalls helping Tony save the world, even filling in as Iron Man in the classic armor. And, meeting the girl of his dreams, Pepper Potts and them marrying. Happy ran into Spymaster and was apparently brain dead. Pepper asked Tony, who at the time had control over machines, to pull the plug because Happy would not want to be left as a vegetable on life support. There was a funeral and a burial. Then recently, Happy woke up in a medical facility. A computer monitor writes asking if he can help Tony from Iron Man. Back to the now, Tony is hung up in partial armor as a bomb with the two Whiplashes, Luna, Hugo, Pepper, and Happy as Citizen V unmasked. Whiplash, the original, begins to detonate the bomb when the newer Whiplash, Vanko stops him, and they get into an argument. Tony asks Pepper to follow his directions and activate the bomb. This powers up the armor he calls the Mark 75 armor, the Aura armor allowing him to absorb close technology into Iron Man armor. He takes the Whiplashes whips and integrates into his armor. He deactivates the bomb and finds that A.I.M. and Madame Masque and a kid (Adam Ware) is behind this. Meanwhile at Tony's home, A.I.M. and Adam are taking all the tech and records they can. Melinda May shows up at the Superhero lab with Rhodey and the geniuses. Tony sees Luna and Hugo off. Tony confronts Pepper and Happy and fires Pepper for lying to him. Happy defends Pepper and tells Tony that his memory about his dad has been compromised, seeing his dad now as an angel instead of the harsh distant person he was. Reed and Sue show up to invite Tony to talk. Melinda is redirected from the Raft to the Vault to drop off the two Whiplashes when she meets the new warden, Karla Sofen, formerly Moonstone and formerly a PhD psychologist. (Leads to Tony being incarcerated 6 months later).
Iron Man V8 Issue 9 (#689) - We open with an introduction to Whiplash, Mark Scarlotti, a former engineer for Stark Industries who became a masked criminal. Then, he was killed seemingly by Iron Man with Tony Stark in the armor. Iron Man then tries to explain it wasn't him, it was the Sentient Armor but falls on deaf ears as both Whiplashes fight. Tony awakes tied up to tubes with half of his armor ripped off. He is talking to Citizen V, upside down and also tied up, who claims to be a concerned citizen, but Tony is not buying it. He reflects back on those he has lost, Yinsen, Rumiko, and Happy to name a few. The Whiplashes tell Stark they are turning him into a bomb to take out Tony's Stark Tower and everything around it. Tony mocks them for such a simple plan. Meanwhile at the Vault, the prison for the super powered criminals. Adam and Madame Masque meet up with M.O.D.O.K. in a cell. They are planning something big. We head to Gamma Base, home of Stark's School of Super Science. A discussion of what does Tony want them to build and Rhodey interrupts and tells them not to do what Tony want, but what do they want to build. Melinda May shows up to tell about the rumor that A.I.M. has a new leader trying to consolidate all of A.I.M. A student says she can build a new Stealth armor to help Melinda infiltrate A.I.M. At Stark Industries, LA, Pepper and Luna with Hugo go inside and Whiplash grabs Hugo who has wondered away. Citizen V begins to taunt Anton Vanko. Then, blasts him as he messes with the mask. Pepper walks in and helps Citizen V. Whiplash I has Hugo and threatens Tony and the boy. Then Citizen V offers himself as a trade and reveals he is Happy Hogan.
